Howard Gardner's latest work, 'Five Minds for the Future' looks applicable to our work. I hope Joanne Munroe will add to this thread since she's presented on the 'Five Minds' model.
The Disciplinary Mind: the mastery of major schools of thought, including science, mathematics, and history, and of at least one professional craft. The Synthesizing Mind: the ability to integrate ideas from different disciplines or spheres into a coherent whole and to communicate that integration to others. The Creating Mind: the capacity to uncover and clarify new problems, questions and phenomena. The Respectful Mind: awareness of and appreciation for differences among human beings and human groups. The Ethical Mind: fulfillment of one's responsibilities as a worker and as a citizen. |

On behalf of the team, I'm happy to announce the birth of the Olympic Peninsula SAMS PLC. The PLC is comprised of mathematics teachers from Olympic College and 5 high schools. The PLC is focusing on the College Readiness Attribute "Takes Responsibility for Own Learning" and, more specifically the evidence indicator, "Examines and learns from his or her errors and seeks help when needed." The PLC will draw on research and strategies from Carol Dweck, author of "Mindset: The New Psychology of Success" as well as Assessment for Learning strategies from Dylan William and others. The PLC has scheduled a few face-to-face meeting times as well as monthly online PLC meetings using GoToMeeting as a communication platform.
The PLC will be sharing resources and learnings via this wetpaint website and looks forward to participating in the discussions. |
